Senior Boys Soccer
Diefenbaker Senior Boys Soccer had a great season this year after battling back from a slow start to make the Division 2 Soccer City Championship Final. They were so close to winning it all and unfortunately lost on penalties, winding up with the Silver Medal finish. As part of their season wind-up celebration, Cavalry Football Club’s Bradley Kamden Fewo, a player from the CFC's professional team, came to Dief to host a Question & Answer session with the players. Our team enjoyed the opportunity to hear stories and get advice from a pro. They also had the chance to pose with the Canadian Premier League Championship Trophy which Cavalry won last year.
Artist Spotlight
This marks our final Spotlight for 2024-2025 school year.
Please look for us again next year. And have a great summer!
Reminder: We have our last LITA meeting at 11am on June 26 in the Art Room.
Now for our Artist Spotlight Abby K. who wrote her own bio: I’m a Gr. 12 student in both the Jazz and Symphonic Band. I took Art, Drama and Dance a year each throughout high school, but have mainly focused on music.
My older sisters both took Art and Dance all three years of high school and like the little sister I am, I followed suit. Unlike them though, I ended up sticking with just band. I’ve been in Music classes since Kindergarten, and started playing clarinet in Grade 6 and alto sax in Grade 9.
Band provides me with a hands-on way to express myself. It is also the place where I’ve met my best friends. I plan on keeping music in my life after high school. Although, I may focus more on playing the guitar (that I made with my dad for my 16th birthday!).
I have participated in AIBF (Alberta International Band Festival) all throughout high school, and just this year, Symphonic Band won an Adjudicators Choice Award! I’ve performed at some of the Lunchbox Showcases with Jazz Band over these past three years. In Grade 10, I was given a Spring Award for the Fine Arts.
I mainly play Classical or Jazz music - although when I play guitar at home, I focus more on Rock. When I’m practicing pieces, I like to listen to a recording of the song to figure out how it should sound and the pace at which it should be played. In Jazz I like to volunteer for solos, which provide me with an important skill in music, improvisation, along with the ability to express and play something unique to me.
After high school, I hope to one day purchase my own clarinet and saxophone, but until then, I’ll continue to play and practice guitar for fun, maybe even make some of my own music.
