Hello Diefenbaker Chiefs,
Our new school year is just around the corner and school sports will be starting right away. Please be prepared for practice and tryouts on the first day of school. The schedule for our fall sports teams is below.
Volleyball - Tryouts begin on the first day of school, August 31st. See the attached poster for the tryout schedule for the first week of school.
- SR and JR Boys 4:00 - 5:30 PM in the main gym
- SR and JR Girls 5:30 - 7:00 PM in the main gym
Football - Equipment handout and practice begins on Monday August 24th. See the attached poster for details of the fall camp schedule.
- Equipment handout for new grade 10's and other new players at 10 AM - 12 PM.
- Team meetings and first practice 12:30 - 3:00 PM

Girls Soccer - First tryout will be Tuesday September 1st. Practices occur on the field behind Sir John A Macdonald School (SJAM) at 4 PM. Bring cleats, water bottle and a change of clothes.
Cross Country - Cross Country running team will have an information meeting at lunch on Tuesday September 1st. Stay tuned to the announcements for room location.
Swim - The swim season starts the first week of October with morning practices on Tuesday and Thursdays. Stay tuned for more details on the swim team schedule.
Golf - An information meeting for the golf zone tournament on September 14 will occur in the first week of school. Please listen to school announcements for details on the info meeting date and time.

Spring Football Camp
Night of the Chiefs
Night of the Chiefs, is on Wednesday June 3 at the Thorncliffe Greenview Community Association from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tickets for student athletes are included in team fees at a cost of $48.00. If you have not paid your team fees yet, please pay on MyCBE or pay in the Business Office with Ms. Prum.
Deadline to purchase tickets and pay outstanding team fees is Thursday May 14, 2026. Tickets will be handed out in the last week of May for those who have paid. This is an amazing evening to celebrate all our student athletes and our school teams. Trainers and student managers are welcome to purchase a ticket to join in the celebrations too, please see Ms. Prum in the Business Office.
Badminton Championships
Congratulations to the Badminton Team for winning the Divisional 3 City Championships.
Congratulations to Serena W. and Yoyo S. for winning a bronze medal.
Congratulations to Angela L., Sky C., Norman C., Saad K., Joey C., Athena W., Ray W.,
Orion L. and Emma A. for winning a silver medal.

Samantha L. for winning the gold medal.

provincials.

We will have 21 different teams at Diefenbaker next year. We are very excited about the return of Junior Football as well as Junior Boys and Girls Basketball. Games and practices are on our Calendar page. Select Athletics filter.

Athletics’ Home Game Viewing
Individual schools determine the audience for Home Games. At Diefenbaker, we have decided that only current Diefenbaker students, families of current Diefenbaker students, visiting school students and player families are welcome to view Home Games at Diefenbaker. All students from Diefenbaker or the visiting school must provide valid school ID to enter games. At this time, Diefenbaker Alumni or those with no school ID will not be allowed to view home games.
Reminder to students: Check the list for which schools are “limited” schools where students can only attend if Diefenbaker is playing as a guest team and those which are “open” meaning students are welcome to attend for any game.
2023-2024 Basketball Season Gym Spectator Policy Listing
*With conditions (noted below)
- Alumni from either school is permitted.
- Host will not be checking ID of parents/guardians, but behaviour rules apply.
Limited Spectator Policy:
- Students from the two participating schools need to show their school ID for admission to the gym.
- Families (parents/guardians/grandparents) of players only.
- **Extended family members must be accompanied by a player’s parent/guardian
- No alumni from visiting schools
- School access is restricted to the gym and washrooms near the gym.
- There is no vaping or smoking on school property, including the parking lot, washrooms and gymnasium.
- Those caught vaping or smoking will be asked to leave immediately.
- Student and spectator code of conduct will be expected.
Students are reminded that they represent themselves and Diefenbaker at all times. Inappropriate actions at another school could result in disciplinary actions at Diefenbaker or CPS involvement.

Congratulations to our Senior Boys' Basketball Team and Coaches. We are proud of announce that on Saturday, March 11, 2023 they became Div 3 CITY CHAMPIONS!!!!!!
