Graduation 2026

• Ceremony - 9 AM at Centre Street Campus - 3900 2^nd Street NE
• Reception - 2:30-5 PM at WinSport 

 There is an important Grad Parent Evening on Wednesday, April 15 at 6 PM.  This will be a Teams Meeting; the link will be sent out via email on April 14.  Please connect with the main office if you do not receive the link.  

Details around parking, tickets to the ceremony and the reception will be shared at the Grad Parent Evening.  If you cannot attend, a link to the PowerPoint will be posted to the school website the next day.  

Please have your student check the Grad Board to ensure they are on track for graduation and have met all requirements.  Any questions, please see Student Services.

Canadian Citizenship Ceremony

We are hosting a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony at John G. Diefenbaker High School at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 23. This is a very special ceremony at which 50 new Canadians will be sworn in as Canadian Citizens. (Please note: We have shifted the date from April 21).

If you or any close family members or friends have an open application for citizenship with IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), please advise us what stage in the process you/they are and if you are interested in being potentially scheduled for this event. Please include your UCI or Citizenship application number. Direct your replies to Mr. Bill Hilton at behilton@cbe.ab.ca and this information will be forwarded to IRCC.

Student Parking

Student parking is available in the Student Parking Lot ONLY on the south side of the school. Students must purchase (from the Business Office) and display a vehicle parking tag on their dashboard. Vehicles parked without a valid parking tag may be ticketed.

Diefenbaker Sports

Girls’ Rugby Bottle Drive will be this Saturday, April 11 to fundraise for their Medicine Hat tournament in Medicine Hat.  Please bring your bottles by the school from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM this Saturday. 

Golf Team:  Information meeting will be hosted on Tuesday, April 14 in the Sports Med room.  Both Male and Female golfers are welcome. Players must be able to break 100 on 18 holes to participate.  Fees and dates will be shared at the information meeting.

Unique Pathways and Dual Credit Programming

Application deadline was today, April 10, if you missed this deadline and still wish apply, email Mr. Coutts at djcoutts@cbe.ab.ca ASAP.

Comments on the April Report Card:

Report cards will be made viewable on April 14.  Understanding how your student is doing with respect to the Program of Studies and the CBE Outcomes are always viewable in PowerSchool before and after each Reporting Period.  If you have further questions, please reach out to your student’s teacher. Comments and marks will not be viewable beginning April 6 until April 14 to allow teachers to update marks and comments. 

For this Reporting Period 3, students who are meeting passing expectations of the course will only receive a percentage grade without a comment.  Students who are not meeting expectations will receive a supportive comment with Areas of Strength, Areas for Growth and Learning Next Steps. This details what they are good at; what they need to improve upon; and what steps to take to make those improvements.  If after the report is viewed, you still have concerns or questions, please contact your student’s teacher.

ROTC Fundraiser - Ride of the Chiefs

Our Leadership students are the organizers for our annual Ride of the Chiefs (ROTC) event. These students are reaching out to our JGD Community of parents to ask for help in order to continue this awesome legacy into its 11^th year. Please help us keep this significant traditional strong!

Cell Phone Use

John G. Diefenbaker teachers and staff are following Alberta Government’s law regarding cell phones. Teachers only allow students to be on their phones when it is part of the learning. 

Parent please do not text or call your child when they are in their classrooms.  Or if you do text or call, please do not expect an immediate response. Students are not allowed to take calls or texts during the learning and if they do, they face consequences. If there is an emergency, please call our main phone number and ask one of the Secretaries to call into the classroom.  Parents contacting students during class time has become a concern in our building and we ask for your assistance!

The Kingdom Carriers

The Kingdom Carriers is a new student-run club that will be starting on Tuesday, April 7 at John G. Diefenbaker. At lunchtime, students are invited to come to room 218 to come join in on various fun activities related to the Bible. Mr. Colten is our Teacher Sponsor for this club.
